In the summer of 2015, we had the great pleasure of heading over to Italy on a mission trip with our local church family. We were blessed to spend 12 days traveling through my homeland – Italy. Many may know this, but others may not, but I grew up in Florence, Italy as my father ran Harding University’s overseas program. Not only that, but my father actually grew up in Italy as the son of a missionary….so, altogether, my family has spent well over 50 years in Italy if you were to combine us all in the last three generations. It’s “home.”
We were also blessed to have my father, Dr. Terry Edwards, along for the trip as our “tour guide.” I wanted to make sure that all of our members on this mission trip would be able to learn and glean from the very best when it came to early Christian history, the Roman world, and the local church….and, well, there is no one better than my father when it comes to those things!
We spent a wonderful 12 days working and meeting with the churches in Rome, Catania, and Florence as part of our trip. We held a gospel meeting in Catania, met and worshipped with the church in Rome, and spent time encouraging the Avanti Italia workers in Florence. It was truly an awesome work and experience.
During the trip, we were able to see some sites and take in some of the beauty that is Italy. While doing this, we wanted to make sure that there was a learning component….so we asked my father to speak at the different locations about how these places affected, and still do, the church, early Christian life, and even the writing of the NT (specifically the book of Romans). While doing this, we decided to capture it all on film.
We have spent the last 6 months putting together/editing 6 mini-videos (filmlets, if you please) that we captured while we experienced Rome. We are super proud of these videos and their content – Dr. Edwards is an expert in these areas and it was truly a wonderful experience to shoot on location these incredible little “tidbits” of history while living it firsthand.
The six videos cover a total of 24 minutes and topics cover information specific to Christian Heritage, Early Christian Imagery, the Papacy, the Catacombs, the Colosseum, and St. Peter’s Basilica.
You can check out this little intro to one of the videos above.
If you would like to purchase the full set – head on over to our “Video Series” area and you can download directly to your computer. No shipping required!
We hope you enjoy these filmlets as much as we have enjoyed making them. God bless!
